This oil painting cardboard, titled "A yellow sunset illuminates the city", the artist uses an expressive impasto technique, layering thick, vibrant strokes of color to create a rich, textured scene that pulsates with energy and warmth. The cityscape unfolds as a collection of rooftops, spires, and facades, rendered in deep blues, purples, and warm earthy tones. The skyline is punctuated by church domes and towers, their silhouettes blending into the luminous yellow and green sky, which radiates a soft, almost dreamlike light over the city. The bold contrast between the cool shades of the buildings and the radiant warmth of the sky enhances the sense of depth and atmosphere. In the foreground, the artist depicts winding streets and lush vegetation with thick, dynamic strokes. The foliage, painted in hues of green, violet, and hints of pink, adds movement and texture, suggesting a natural border between the viewer and the urban space. The vegetation appears illuminated by the golden glow, reflecting the light and creating an impression of an evening touched by magic. At the heart of the painting, clusters of small, glowing windows emanate a warm, inviting light, suggesting life and activity within the city. These scattered points of illumination create a focal point, drawing the eye toward the city’s inner warmth amid the cool, shadowy surroundings. The contrast between light and dark areas evokes a sense of quiet anticipation, as though the city is transitioning from the vibrancy of day to the hush of night. The sky, with its thickly applied strokes of yellow and green, is a dominant feature of the painting. The swirling, blended colors give it a sense of movement, as if the last rays of sunlight are melting into the approaching dusk. The sky’s luminosity seems to cascade over the city, casting elongated shadows and highlighting architectural details in a soft, diffused glow. Through the expressive application of oil paint and the interplay of contrasting colors, the artist masterfully conveys the transient beauty of sunset over an old city. This piece is more than a mere cityscape; it is a study of light and shadow, of warmth and coolness, of movement and stillness. It invites the viewer to step into the scene, to experience the last golden moments of daylight before the city is fully embraced by night. The artist’s dynamic brushwork and bold palette create a vivid, immersive experience, making this sunset feel both timeless and deeply personal.
