Nikolay Fedorovich Bortnikov (1916–1998) is a world-famous Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and are admired by collectors for their landscapes, portraits, and still lifes, all suffused with light, air, and a refined sense of realism.

Bortnikov’s art is distinguished by its realistic vision, subtle coloring, and careful observation of nature and character. His paintings often capture the changing moods of the natural world, with atmospheric effects and an impressionistic touch in both landscapes and portraiture. Whether depicting coastal Crimea, view over the sea, or quiet domestic scenes, his works possess emotional depth and artistic harmony that appeal to both museums and private collectors.

Born on January 9, 1916, in Verny (now Almaty), Kazakhstan, he studied at the Tashkent Art College from 1933 to 1936, and later at the Surikov Moscow Art Institute, graduating in 1950. That same year, he became a member of the USSR Union of Artists. In 1976, he was awarded the title Honored Artist of Ukraine.

From 1936 onwards, Bortnikov participated in regional, republican, all-Union and international exhibitions. He lived for much of his life in Simferopol (Crimea), where he taught, created many of his works, and influenced the local artistic community. His works are preserved in the Simferopol Art Museum and private collections in Ukraine, Russia, and Europe. Regularly presented at international auction houses, his paintings remain in demand for their artistic excellence, cultural resonance, and timeless beauty.
