🎨 Ukrainian Printmaker — Master of Woodcut, Book Illustration & Ex Libris

Mykola Ivanovych Stratyilat (June 6, 1942 – March 9, 2023) was a leading Ukrainian graphic artist renowned for woodcut (xylography), book graphics, and ex libris. Born in Makiivka (Chernihiv region), he graduated from the Kyiv Art and Craft School No. 16 in 1961 (decorative painting) and the Ukrainian Printing Institute in Lviv in 1972.
A member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1980, he was honored as Merited Artist of Ukraine (1996) and later People’s Artist of Ukraine (2008). Stratyilat created extensive cycles of easel prints, book illustrations, and ex libris, along with celebrated series devoted to Kyiv’s historic imagery, Cossack heritage, and Ukrainian folk tradition.

His works are held by the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Taras Shevchenko National Museum, the Chernihiv Art Museum, and in private collections across Europe and the United States.
His name is closely associated with the revival of Ukrainian woodcut and the preservation of national identity in visual art.
