The painting "For Dinner" is a vivid and abstract oil on canvas piece that captures the essence of a dining experience through the use of geometric shapes and bold colors. The artist employs a vibrant color palette dominated by primary colors such as blue, red, and yellow, complemented by pink and black outlines. The technique features flat, even areas of color with distinct black lines separating each shape, reminiscent of stained glass or a mosaic. This method creates a strong, graphic quality to the composition, emphasizing the structured and deliberate placement of each element. The composition is an abstract interpretation of a dining scene, divided into various geometric shapes and sections. Each part of the painting represents different elements typically found in a dining setting, arranged in a non-traditional, almost cubist style. In the lower left portion of the painting, an oval-shaped table is depicted in blue, with a pink plate and a glass. The table is outlined in black and bordered with a thin line of pink, adding contrast and focus to this central element. Centrally placed within a blue rectangle is a pink vase holding a single pink flower with a green stem. This element adds a touch of delicacy and elegance to the composition, contrasting with the bold geometric shapes. In the upper right, a circular clock with a pink face and blue border is depicted. The clock is set against a yellow background, drawing attention to the passage of time during the dining experience. On either side of the vase, red shapes suggest the presence of curtains or drapes, adding a sense of interior space and framing the central elements of the painting. The background consists of flat areas of yellow and blue, which are interspersed throughout the composition. These colors help to unify the various elements, creating a cohesive and harmonious overall effect. The overall mood of the painting is lively and inviting, with the vibrant colors and dynamic composition evoking a sense of joy and celebration. The abstract nature of the piece allows viewers to interpret the scene in their own way, finding personal meaning and connections within the familiar elements of a dining setting. "For Dinner" can be seen as an exploration of the dining experience, abstracted into its essential components and reimagined through the lens of modern art. The use of bold colors and geometric shapes transforms ordinary objects into visually striking elements, encouraging viewers to appreciate the beauty in everyday scenes. This painting masterfully combines abstract and representational elements to create a vibrant and engaging depiction of a dinner setting, using color and form to evoke a sense of warmth and conviviality.

About the artists: Alexander Gukalov
After graduating from Lviv Polytechnic, he was engaged in scientific work. In his free time, he studied the works of Plato, the poetry of the ancient East, and religious works. At this time, resistance to the routine of life and utilitarian science arose in him; he became interested in man and his secrets. Alexander decided to end his engineering career and become a humanitarian. Since 1990, he began to write and publish philosophical poems. Later he decided to devote himself to painting, a passion for which began during his years of study at the Lviv Polytechnic with caricatures and caricatures of classmates and teachers.

Since 2017 he has been painting with oil paints. Alexander does not have a formal art education, but he is convinced that the craft and talent of an artist do not directly depend on professional education. The artist's works are characterized by completeness of composition and depth of meaning. He is not afraid to work with different themes, his paintings are true modern art that touches people. The artist’s portfolio includes landscapes and views of his favorite cities, portraits of pop stars, politicians, athletes, relatives, and animals. “I draw a toga when I feel the need for it. Therefore, I cannot say that I work in some narrow direction. Rather, it is a call from the soul,” the artist says about himself.
