Mikhail Alexandrovich Kokin (1921–2009) is a distinguished Soviet-Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and admired by collectors for their lyrical realism, sensitive use of color, and atmospheric landscapes. He is particularly known for his marine paintings, sunlit scenes, floral compositions, and tranquil rural settings.

Kokin’s art is characterized by its clarity of form, balanced compositions, and harmony of light and shade. His landscapes and seascapes often convey quiet moments—dawn or dusk, calm seas, blooming gardens—rendered with a poetic touch that reaches both public institutions and private hands. His style reflects both academic training and the influence of modern Ukrainian realist schools.

Born on July 16, 1921, in Dnepropetrovsk (Ekaterinoslav), Kokin began his artistic education at the Dnepropetrovsk Fine Arts School (1937–1941). After World War II, he continued his studies at the Kiev State Art Institute, from which he graduated in 1954 under professors including S. A. Grigoryev and V. N. Kostetsky. From 1947, he began to exhibit regionally; since 1958 he was a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. For a long period—from 1965 to 1987—he served as the chief artist of the Dnepropetrovsk Art and Industrial Combine.

Over the course of his life, Kokin received official recognition: Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1976, and later the title People’s Artist of Ukraine in 2001. His works are held in museums in Dnepropetrovsk (now Dnipro), Kiev, Chernigov, Donetsk, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr, Sevastopol, Kherson, the Taras Shevchenko Museum-Reserve in Kaniv, as well as numerous private collections abroad. Regularly presented at international auction houses, Kokin’s paintings continue to be in strong demand for their artistic refinement, cultural resonance, and enduring beauty.
