Gavriil Martynovich Gluck (1912–1983) is a celebrated Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and admired by collectors for their lyrical realism, rich color, and sincerity. A classic figure of the Transcarpathian school, his paintings of landscapes, genre scenes, and portraits combine poetic mood with technical strength.

Gluck’s art is distinguished by bright imagery, mastery of color, and emotional honesty. His genre works and portrayals of working people are especially valued—each gesture and scene rendered with precision and tenderness. Over time, his style developed decorative power, increasingly relying on color harmonies and refined forms, especially in his still lifes and mature landscapes.

Born on May 19, 1912 in Sighetu (now Romania), Gluck studied at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Budapest (1931-1933) and at other art schools including Chisinau. From the 1940s onward he participated in republican, all-Union, and international exhibitions. He joined the Union of Artists of Moldova in 1945, and in 1954 became a member of the Transcarpathian Organization of the Union of Artists of Ukraine. His first personal exhibition was held in Uzhgorod in 1963.

Gluck was awarded titles and international honors for his work: in 1956 a diploma at the Venice Exhibition; in 1958 a diploma and large silver medal at the Brussels Exhibition; and in 1963 he was named Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. He lived and worked mostly in Transcarpathia (Uzhgorod) until his death on November 2, 1983.

His works are preserved in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Transcarpathian I. Bokshay Art Museum, and in galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. Regularly presented at international auction houses, Gluck’s paintings are valued for their artistic excellence, cultural significance, and timeless poetic beauty.
