Alexander Vasilievich Kuprin (1880–1960) is a world-famous painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and remain highly valued by collectors. He is celebrated as one of the leading representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian avant-garde, a member of the Jack of Diamonds group, and a master who helped introduce modernist principles into early 20th-century painting.

Kuprin’s art is admired for its bold color, expressive forms, and architectural clarity of composition. His still lifes, landscapes, and urban views reveal the influence of Cézanne and cubism, while retaining a strong national character. His ability to combine structural rigor with decorative richness made his works highly desirable for museums and private collectors worldwide.

Born on March 19, 1880, in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh province, Kuprin studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1902–1910) under Konstantin Korovin and Abram Arkhipov. In 1910 he became one of the founders of the Jack of Diamonds group, exhibiting alongside Robert Falk, Ilya Mashkov, Pyotr Konchalovsky, and Aristarkh Lentulov. In the 1920s–1930s he worked in Ukraine, particularly in Feodosia and Kyiv, where he created many of his celebrated industrial landscapes and city views.

Over his long career, Kuprin was recognized as a significant figure in Soviet art. In 1954 he was awarded the title Honored Artist of the RSFSR. His works are preserved in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the National Art Museum of Ukraine, and numerous private collections worldwide. Regularly presented at international auction houses, Kuprin’s paintings remain in strong demand for their artistic innovation, cultural significance, and timeless expressive power.
