Petr Alekseyevich Levchenko (1856–1917) is a world-famous Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and remain highly prized by collectors. His art is celebrated for its lyrical landscapes, refined sense of light, and a poetic realism that captures the spirit of Ukraine at the turn of the 20th century.

Levchenko’s paintings are admired for their intimate mood, delicate color harmonies, and sincerity of expression. He masterfully conveyed the beauty of rural life, old streets, quiet gardens, and the peaceful corners of nature, making him one of the most beloved Ukrainian landscape painters of his generation.

Born on October 9, 1856 in Kharkiv, Levchenko studied at the Kharkiv School of Drawing and Painting under Dmytro Bezperchy, and later at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1878–1883). Returning to Kharkiv, he became a leading figure of the city’s artistic life and a member of the Society of Kharkiv Artists. He participated in exhibitions of the Peredvizhniki (Itinerants), and his works were shown widely in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and St. Petersburg.

Levchenko’s legacy lies in his lyrical depictions of Ukrainian nature and cityscapes, which today are preserved in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Kharkiv Art Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, and private collections worldwide. His works remain highly sought after at international auction houses, valued for their artistic brilliance and their embodiment of Ukrainian cultural heritage.
