About the artist: Soviet painter. People's Artist of Russia. Laureate of the Stalin Prize of the first degree (1951). Professor of the Department of Painting and Composition of the St. Petersburg State Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin, head of the personal workshop at the painting faculty of the LIZHSA them. I.E. Repin of the Russian Academy of Arts, was the chairman of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists of Russia (LOSKh). Laureate of the State Prize in the field of fine arts, awarded with many medals for participation in the Great Patriotic War, a medal of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland, 2nd degree, and others. Born July 31, 1915 in Petrograd. In 1938 he entered the LIZHSA them. I.E. Repin at the All-Russian Academy of Arts. In 1946 he graduated from the institute in the workshop of B.V. Johanson with the title of painting artist. Thesis - the painting "The entry of the Red Army into the liberated Novgorod." In 1946-1949 he studied at the graduate school of the institute. In 1950, for the painting “I. V. Stalin and K. Ye. Voroshilov at the Tsaritsyn Front in 1918 "awarded the degree of Candidate of Art History. From 1945 to 1950 he taught drawing and composition at the Secondary Art School at the Institute of Fine Arts named after I.E. Repin. Since 1949 he has been teaching at the LIZHSA them. I.E. Repin. Professor, head of the personal workshop. Participant of exhibitions since 1946. In the same year he was accepted as a member of the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists. He writes genre and historical compositions, landscapes, portraits. The works of Vasily Vasilyevich Sokolov are in the State Russian Museum, in museums and private collections in Russia, China, Japan, France, Belgium and other countries. Died in April 2013. Participant of many international, regional and city exhibitions in Moscow and St. Petersburg, in foreign countries: China, France, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain and others. Sokolov acquired and are in: the Kremlin, the Ministry of Culture, the State Russian Museum, the Art Fund of Russia, museums in Russia (Veliky Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk, Murmansk, Petrozavodsk, etc.), Ukraine, Belarus and other countries of the near and far abroad.
