Evgeny Vsevolodovich Volobuev (1912–2002) is a distinguished Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and are admired by collectors for their lyrical realism, sensitive color palette, and honest depiction of Soviet and Ukrainian life. Known especially for landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes, Volobuev earned respect as both an artist and teacher who upheld high artistic standards throughout his long career.

Volobuev’s art is noted for its atmospheric light, harmonious compositions, and emotional sincerity. His works often depict rural life, the changing effects of seasons, and the quiet beauty of nature and domestic scenes, combining everyday subject matter with refined painterly technique. Over time his style retained clarity and tonal balance, making his paintings deeply evocative and timeless.

Born on July 17, 1912, in Varvarivka village, Kharkiv region, Volobuev studied at Kharkiv Art College (1928-1931), then at the Kharkiv Art Institute (1931-1934), and later at the Kyiv Art Institute under masters including F. G. Krichevsky and D. N. Shavykin. From 1938 he became a regular participant in republican, all-Union, and international exhibitions.

He held teaching positions in Kharkiv Art College and Kharkiv Art Institute, influencing many students, before ultimately settling in Kyiv, where he continued to work and exhibit. He was awarded the title Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1963 and later elevated to People’s Artist of Ukraine in 1995. Major works include “Spring” (1949), “The Garden Bloomed” (1951), “Still Life” (1954), “On a Livestock Farm” (1957), “On the Dnieper” (1960), “From the Past” (1964), and others.

Volobuev’s works are preserved in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, and art museums in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Lugansk, Odessa, and others. He died on February 2, 2002, in Kyiv. Regularly presented at international auction houses, his paintings remain in demand for their artistic mastery, cultural resonance, and enduring poetic quality.
