Viktor Grigorievich Puzyrkov (1918–1999) is a world-famous Soviet-Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and are highly valued by collectors. He is known for his powerful naval themes, dramatic maritime scenes, and genre works that convey both heroic spirit and refined realism.

Puzyrkov’s art is distinguished by its dynamic compositions, strong color contrasts, and expressive depictions of sea, ships, storms, and wartime scenes. His portraits and scenes of human struggle also show sensitive understanding of character and emotion. Whether through depicting naval action or quiet moments before or after the storm, his works combine narrative force with painterly skill.

Born on October 4, 1918 in Yekaterinoslav (now Dnipro, formerly Dnepropetrovsk), Puzyrkov studied at the Dnepropetrovsk Art College before entering the Kyiv State Art Institute. He graduated in 1946. After WWII, he joined the Union of Artists of Ukraine and became a teacher. In 1957 he was appointed professor at the Kyiv Art Institute. He participated in republican, all-Union, and international exhibitions since the late 1940s.

Puzyrkov earned the title People’s Artist of the USSR in 1979. He won two Stalin Prizes (third class) in 1948 and 1950, and the Shevchenko State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR in 1976 for works like “Soldiers” and “In the Dugout.” His works are held in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Dnipro Art Museum, and many other museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. He died on October 30, 1999 in Kyiv.
