Valentina Petrovna Tsvetkova (1917–2007) is a world-famous Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and are admired by collectors for their mastery of landscape and still life, lyrical realism, and vibrant color. Celebrated as one of the classic figures of Crimean painting, she combined a loving attention to nature with refined realism, making scenes of her beloved Crimea luminous and atmospheric.

Tsvetkova’s art is distinguished by harmonious color, delicate light, and composition that blends still life with landscape: flowers, fruits, boats, seasonal motifs, often set against the background of Crimea’s coast and gardens. Her works transmit the special warmth of the southern sun, the clarity of the air, and a sensibility toward nature’s details. As master of both oil painting and graphics, she painted portraits and genre scenes too, but her strength lies in lyrical, evocative scenes of nature and still life.

Born on April 23, 1917 in Astrakhan, in a family of a priest, Tsvetkova studied at the Astrakhan Art School (1930-1935) under Pavel Vlasov. From 1935-1938 she worked in the “Artist” partnership in Astrakhan, then from 1938-1940 in a workshop at the House of Arts in Leningrad. In 1944 she became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. From 1950-1972 she served on the board of the Crimean branch of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR.

Her achievements include receiving the title Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR and, from 1985, People’s Artist of Ukraine. Tsvetkova participated in exhibitions locally, throughout the USSR, and internationally. Her works are held in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, Kharkiv, Sumy, Simferopol, Astrakhan, as well as in private collections across Europe and beyond. She passed away on November 27, 2007 in Yalta.
