About the artist: Soviet Ukrainian painter. People's Artist of Ukraine.

Nikolay Antonovich Maksimenko was born on December 31, 1924 in the village of Yaropovichi, Zhytomyr region.
In the 1930s, the family of the future artist moved to the Urals in the city of Magnitogorsk.

In 1941 - 1942 studied at the art studio of the Honored Artist of the RSFSR, People's Artist of the RSFSR, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR B. Degtyarev, who during the Great Patriotic War was evacuated from Moscow to Magnitogorsk.

In 1942-1943. Nikolai Maksimenko is a student at the Tallinn Military Infantry School. The training took place in Tyumen, where the school was evacuated.

Member of the Second World War. Awarded with military awards.
On the outskirts of the Dnieper, he received a severe shrapnel wound in the eye, which Nikolai Antonovich lost forever.

After the war, N.A. Maksimenko dedicated to painting.
In 1946-1948. works as an artist in the art workshop "Vsekohudozhnik" in the city of Magnitogorsk and at the same time studies at an art studio headed by the Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR Y. Soloviev.
In 1948 he became a candidate member of the Union of Soviet Artists.
In 1947-1948. - trips from Magnitogorsk to Moscow, where he studied with the outstanding Soviet painter I. Grabar.

In 1948 N.A. Maksimenko returned to Ukraine in the city of Rivne.
Works as the head of the art studio of the city Palace of Pioneers.

In 1949, the artist moved to his native Zhitomir, where he worked in the department of the Art Fund of the Ukrainian SSR.

Member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR since 1960.
He worked in the field of easel painting. Master of landscape and still life.
Participant of city, republican, all-union and foreign art exhibitions.
Held 14 personal exhibitions.

People's Artist of Ukraine since 1994.
Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine. T. Shevchenko (1994).
He was awarded the Orders of Glory of the III degree, the Patriotic War of the I degree, the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Merit of the III degree, medals.
Lived and worked in Zhitomir.
The works of Nikolai Antonovich Maksimenko are presented in more than 30 museums in Ukraine and abroad, in numerous gallery and private collections around the world.
