About the artist: Soviet Ukrainian artist. People's Artist of Ukraine. Member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. Sukhorukikh Anatoly Ivanovich was born on December 20, 1935 in the city of Novocherkassk in Russia. In 1960 he graduated from the Crimean Art College. N.S. Samokish, and in 1966 he graduated from the Kharkov Art and Industry Institute, where he studied under A. Khmelnitsky and A. Constantinople. The dissertation of Anatoly - “Mothers of Sevastopol” - is a powerful, emotional canvas, strict in color and carefully verified in composition. The painting "Mothers of Sevastopol" was noted as one of the best diploma works at the competition of young artists, graduates of art universities of the USSR. In 1966, Anatoly Sukhorukikh moved to Sevastopol, a city that had excited and inspired him in his work for more than forty years. Feeding on the Crimean sun, studying all the nuances of light reflexes, Anatoly tirelessly writes many sketches. Landscapes Sukhorukov - authentic. The “street of old Balaklava” with a skillfully transmitted play of sunlight leaves no doubt for the viewer - this is Crimea, it is inherent in him sultry air at noon, its leisurely malleable rhythm of life. In a still life, the artist’s talent is manifested quite widely and multifaceted. Multifigured compositions are also interesting. Of particular importance in the work of Anatoly Sukhorukov is the portrait genre. “A brilliant artist. Master Crimean monet ”- such epithets were given to the artist by his fellow countrymen, friends and artists. In 1973, Anatoly Sukhorukikh a member of the NSHU. Since 1994 - Chairman of the NSHU in the city of Sevastopol. Since 1997, A. Sukhorukov. organizer and leader of the annual All-Ukrainian Sevastopol plein air.
Since 1998 - Honored Artist of Ukraine. In 2006, the artist was awarded the Gold Medal of the Presidium of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine. In 2009, Sukhorukikh Anatoly Ivanovich was awarded the title "People's Artist of Ukraine". He was the initiator of the creation of the annual All-Ukrainian "Sevastopol plein air". About fifteen years he headed the Sevastopol branch of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. He was always demanding of himself and others, instructed young authors in their search for perfection. The works are stored in Sevastopol and Simferopol art museums, private collections both in Ukraine and abroad.

The first of them is "At the Gate", which is a sketch for the painting of the same name, located in the Tver Picture Gallery. It was written based on the poem by A. K. Tolstoy, "At the gate" 1857
