About the artist: Mirel Yakovlevna Shaginyan was born on May 17, 1918 in the city of Nakhichevan-on-Don (part of Rostov-on-Don since 1928), in the family of Yakov Samsonovich Khachatryants and Marietta Shaginyan, teacher of the Nakhichevan Theological Seminary [1].

In the first grade, she went to a Russian school in Armenia, then continued to study in Kislovodsk.

In the summer of 1928, Maximilian Voloshin invited Marietta Shaginyan with her daughter to Koktebel. They rented a room nearby, with the Pavlov family.

In 1931, the Shaginyan family moved to Moscow.

In 1936, Mirel Shaginyan graduated from high school.

During the Great Patriotic War, she was evacuated to Sverdlovsk.

In 1948 she graduated from the Moscow Art Institute. V.I. Surikova (workshop of Alexander Deineka). In 1948, Marietta Shaginyan made a gift to her daughter: she bought her a house in Koktebel for 500 rubles.

Mirel Shaginyan lived both in Moscow, on the Arbat, and in the Crimea, in Koktebel.

Mirel Yakovlevna Shaginyan died on February 24, 2012 in Koktebel [2]. According to her will, she was buried in the village cemetery [3].
