The oil painting titled "Sacrifice" is a striking and evocative piece that immediately captures the viewer's attention with its strong contrast of colors and its poignant subject matter. The background is split horizontally into two distinct color fields: the upper portion is a vibrant, textured red that drips down into the lower half, which is a calm, flat green. This juxtaposition could symbolize the shedding of blood over a field, hinting at themes of war and peace, growth and destruction, or sacrifice and fertility. At the forefront of the painting stands a young, shirtless man, rendered with a high level of detail and realism. His torso is well-defined, suggesting strength and vitality, yet his expression is one of contemplation or resignation. He gazes off to the distance, perhaps reflecting on the gravity of sacrifice or the cost of the conflict. In his outstretched hand, he carefully balances a small, green toy soldier who is in the act of throwing a grenade. This minuscule figure on the palm of the man’s hand powerfully contrasts the enormity of human life against the diminutive representation of war, emphasizing the vast difference between the individual's human experience and the abstract concept of war. Above the man's head, and contrasting with the red, are several sunflower-like shapes, outlined and dripping with paint. The sunflowers, often symbols of peace and life, appear almost as explosions or bursts, reinforcing the theme of sacrifice through their juxtaposition with the war-like scene below. The use of dripping paint adds a sense of immediacy and chaos, as if the scene is still in motion, the sacrifice ongoing. The stark division of colors and the interaction between the figure and the toy soldier create a narrative that invites viewers to reflect on the personal and collective costs of conflict. The artist's signature is discreetly placed, a quiet reminder of the creator's presence and role in shaping this powerful visual statement.

About the artist: Oleg Kateryniuk was born in 1969 in Ukraine.. has made a successful career as a graphic designer.. But, over the years we become more sensitive to people, to nature, to the environment, to everything around us. So something happened, noticed, interested you and sits in you, with its emotions, feelings, its truth and philosophy.. no-no, it does not bother you, just sometimes, as if talking to you, tells your story, pulls your strings souls, and are forced to flee in search of something new, still unnoticed, and very, as it seems at this time, so necessary.. and not only you.. And in such moments you take a pencil, brushes and everything at hand.. and you draw.. being left alone with canvas or paper and your thoughts..
