About the artist: Soviet painter. People's Artist of Russia. Laureate of the Stalin Prize of the first degree (1951). Professor, Department of Painting and Composition, St. Petersburg State Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture I.E. Repin, head of a personal workshop at the painting department of the LIZSA named after I.E. Repin of the Russian Academy of Arts, was chairman of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists of Russia (LOSHa). Laureate of the State Prize in the field of fine arts, awarded many medals for participating in the Great Patriotic War, medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland of the 2nd Degree” and others. Born July 31, 1915 in Petrograd. In 1938 he entered the LIZSA them. I.E. Repin at the All-Russian Academy of Arts. In 1946 he graduated from the Institute in the workshop of B.V. Johanson with the title of artist of painting. Thesis - the painting "The entry of the Red Army into the liberated Novgorod." In 1946-1949 he studied at the graduate school of the institute. In 1950, for the painting "I. V. Stalin and K. E. Voroshilov on the Tsaritsyn Front in 1918 ”awarded the degree of candidate of art history. From 1945 to 1950 he taught drawing and composition at the Secondary School of Art at the LIZSA them. I.E. Repin. Since 1949, he teaches at LIZSA them. I.E. Repin. Professor, head of a personal workshop. Participant of exhibitions since 1946. In the same year he was admitted to the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists. He writes genre and historical compositions, landscapes, portraits. Sokolov Vasily Vasilievich works are in the State Russian Museum, in museums and private collections in Russia, China, Japan, France, Belgium and other countries. Died in April 2013. Member of many international, regional and city exhibitions in Moscow and St. Petersburg, in foreign countries: China, France, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain and others. Paintings by V.V. Sokolov acquired and are: in the Kremlin, the Ministry of Culture, the State Russian Museum, the art fund of Russia, museums of Russia (Veliky Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk, Murmansk, Petrozavodsk and others), Ukraine, Belarus and other countries near and far abroad. Died in April 2013.
