About the artist: Soviet Ukrainian painter. Member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. Master of battle genre, author of numerous dioramas in museums of Ukraine. Ivan Petrov was born on October 7, 1924 in the village of Mironovka, Novo-Georgievsky district (Svetlovodsky district), Kirovograd region. Father - Petrov Semyon Ivanovich, mother - Petrova Lukia Mikhailovna, wife - Petrova Nina Petrovna (1926-1995) sculptor, daughters Petrova Olga Ivanovna - artist and Petrova Anna Ivanovna - muralist artist. Since 1932, Ivan Petrov's adolescent years passed in the city of Izium, Kharkov region, in the homeland of the famous Ukrainian landscape painter Sergei Ivanovich Vasilkovsky, a friend and fellow student at the Academy of Arts N. Samokish. The creativity of both painters significantly influenced the choice of the young man's life path, and in many respects on the formation of the artistic thinking of the future battle artist. In 1939, I. Petrov entered the Kharkov Art School. However, the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 made its own adjustments to his biography. In October 1941, together with all the students of the school, he was sent to the approaches to the city of Kharkov to fulfill the defensive lines. In November 1941 he was mobilized as a pre-conscript and was evacuated to the city of Stalingrad. He graduated from a 4-month industrial training course as a turner at the School of Factory Training No. 20 in the city of Stalingrad. From June 25, 1942 to August 1942, he worked as a turner at the Stalingrad plant "Red October". In August - September 1942 - submachine gunner of the Stalingrad fighter battalion. From October 1942 to March 1943 - gunner of medium tanks of the 31st tank regiment. Severely shell-shocked. Before being postulated in the evacuation hospital, he was considered dead (notification from the Izyum District Military Commissariat of the Kharkiv Region according to the order of the GUK-NKO No. 0127-43). From February 1943 to December 1945 he was treated and worked in the evacuation hospital No. 1848. Possessing a rare blood group 4, he was left by the donor of the evacuation hospital, he worked as an orderly in it, was marked as "Excellence in sanitary service" by order No. 2410 of the evacuation hospital No. 1848 and in military unit 72510 reached Berlin, 08/30/1945 was awarded the medal "For Victory over Germany", Order No. 342. At the garrison hospital in Berlin, he was awarded with gratitude for the selfless work in medical care of the sick and wounded. In January 1946, on the basis of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, he was demobilized and sent to the city of Tula. In September 1946 he continued his studies at the 4th year of the Kharkov Art School. In 1948, after graduating from the Kharkov School, he entered the Kiev State Art Institute (now the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture), from which he graduated in July 1954, in the workshop of historical and battle painting of Professor K. D. Trokhimenko, a student of N.S. Samokisha. In 1954, as one of the best graduates, he was sent by the Ministry of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR to teach at the Crimean Art School of N.S. Samokish, where he taught until 1968. Since 1961 in the Union of Artists of the USSR. I.S.Petrov died on July 3, 1990. Works are presented in museums: State Historical and Cultural Reserve in Bakhchisarai, Museum "National Reserve" Tavrichesk Chersonesos "; Museum of the history of the city of Kakhovka; Crimean Museum of Local Lore (Central Museum of Tavrida); Chersonesos Regional Museum of Local Lore ;; Shevchenko National Reserve. city ​​of Kanev.
